I was born in Poznan, Poland and moved to Illinois with my family when I was five years old. My parents decided to leave our home country in hopes of finding a better life and to open up a whole new world of opportunities for me. This "immigrant kid" mindset still drives both my everyday gratefulness for everything this country has given me, and also my non-stop desire to help make the world around me a better place.
Five years ago, I moved to Moab to take a job with Seekhaven, our local domestic abuse and sexual assault service provider. I served in many roles at Seekhaven, but most recently as the Deputy Executive Director. In my time with Seekhaven, I had had the privilege of working to provide many different kinds of support to Seekhaven clients: including rental assistance, navigating complex systems in times of personal crisis, and helping to promote long-term financial, housing, and family stability within the Moab community.
After five years with Seekhaven, I recently began a new job as the Grant Finance Manager for Moab Regional Hospital's Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, which seeks to fill a big need in our town by providing a comprehensive collection of services that create better access, stabilize individuals in crisis, and provide treatment and recovery support for those with serious mental and substance use disorders.
I am extremely proud to call Moab my permanent home and was fortunate enough to be able to build my own house through the Housing Authority’s low-income, mutual self-help (sweat equity) program. I have always felt incredibly grateful to own a home in this community and to be welcomed into such a vibrant and unique small town, and I know how lucky I am to have safe, secure housing as a member of Moab's working class. I am passionate about doing whatever I can to ensure that others in our community have safe, peaceful, and happy places to call home, and I've served on the Moab City Planning Commission with this goal in mind for two years. For this same reason, equitable housing and community quality of life are issues that will be first and foremost in my platform throughout the campaign.
I want to be a Moab City Council member because the people of this community have given me so much, and I genuinely believe I have the skills and traits to help make sure that our city government gives back to each and every person of Moab in the same way. We are a town full of talent, dedication, and joy, and we all deserve to feel at home in our community and to love living here.
